Teachers affected by what they describe as unfair and politically influenced transfers have begun a continuous protest in front of the Northern Province Governor’s Office today (13).
The teachers stated that the transfers made by the Northern Provincial Department of Education under the pretext of “service requirements” were biased and irregular.
They pointed out that many teachers who have served for over ten years in island and hardship areas have now been transferred again to districts outside their current locations. Meanwhile, several teachers serving in Jaffna have never been transferred out of the district, allegedly due to political influence, allowing them to continue working in the same area.
The protesters further accused both the Northern Provincial Education Minister and the Governor’s Secretariat of acting under political pressure.
They declared that they would continue their protest until a fair and just solution is provided to the affected teachers.
