Thalapathy Vijay’s much-anticipated film “Jana Nayagan” witnessed a grand audio launch on Sunday at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, transforming the venue into a massive celebration of cinema and fandom. Branded as “Thalapathy Thiruvizha,” the event created history by entering the Malaysian Book of Records for the highest number of attendees at an entertainment event, with an estimated 90,000 fans filling the stadium.
The mega event was organised as a tribute to Vijay’s three-decade-long journey in cinema and comes ahead of the release of “Jana Nayagan,” which is widely viewed as his final film before he transitions fully into politics. All ticket categories were sold out days in advance, reflecting the actor’s immense popularity across borders.
Fans travelled from India, Sri Lanka, Singapore and other countries with significant Tamil diaspora populations, turning Kuala Lumpur into a hub of Thalapathy celebrations. Airports and major city locations saw large gatherings of fans sporting TVK and Vijay merchandise. Inside the stadium, deafening chants of “Thalapathy” welcomed the star, who expressed his gratitude to Malaysian Tamils and local authorities for their support.
The audio launch featured electrifying live performances by music composer Anirudh Ravichander, along with appearances by key members of the “Jana Nayagan” team. Songs from the film were performed live for the first time, drawing huge applause from the audience. Director H. Vinoth clarified that the film is a complete commercial entertainer made exclusively for Vijay’s fans, dismissing rumours of it being a remake and promising a full theatrical experience.
Given Vijay’s rising political profile following the launch of his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Malaysian authorities had imposed clear restrictions to ensure the event remained non-political. Organisers and police confirmed that political speeches, slogans or symbols were strictly prohibited, keeping the focus firmly on cinema, music and fan celebration.
The record-breaking audio launch has heightened expectations for “Jana Nayagan,” which stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani and Narain in pivotal roles. With the Kuala Lumpur event already etched into record books, trade analysts are predicting a strong opening when the film releases worldwide in early January.
