Voting is underway today in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, with a fierce four-cornered contest emerging between major political forces, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), and the newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

This election has drawn unprecedented attention due to the political debut of actor-turned-politician Vijay, popularly known as “Thalapathy,” who is contesting for the first time under the banner of TVK. His entry into active politics has significantly altered the electoral landscape, especially among youth and first-time voters.

The ruling DMK, led by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, is seeking to retain power on the back of its governance record and welfare schemes. Meanwhile, the AIADMK is aiming for a strong comeback, banking on its traditional support base and anti-incumbency sentiments.

The NTK, led by Seeman, continues to position itself as a nationalist alternative focused on Tamil identity and grassroots mobilization. However, the spotlight remains firmly on Vijay’s TVK, which is expected to influence vote shares across multiple constituencies, even if it does not emerge as the leading party.

Political analysts suggest that Vijay’s popularity as a film superstar could translate into a decisive swing factor, potentially impacting the fortunes of both DMK and AIADMK in closely contested seats.

With high voter turnout reported across several districts, the results of this election are expected to reshape Tamil Nadu’s political dynamics, marking a possible turning point with the arrival of a major new political force.
