Share:

The second phase of excavations at the Chemmany Sithupathi Hindu cremation ground in Jaffna entered its second day, revealing significant findings.

So far, skeletal remains, including seven human skulls and other body parts, have been unearthed at the site. The discovery was initially made in early February during development work, when workers digging trenches noticed human skeletal fragments. Following this, a judicial inspection was carried out at the location.

Based on the observations, authorities decided to conduct a thorough scan of the area and proceed with formal excavations. Initial excavation efforts led to the identification of two sets of human remains, but the work was temporarily halted due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Excavations resumed the day before yesterday (May 2) and have since revealed five more sets of human remains. Authorities have now resolved to continue the excavation work in the coming days to further investigate the site.
