Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara has pledged to expedite investigations into the Chemmani mass grave in Jaffna and to take steps to allocate the necessary funds for the process.
Responding to a request made by MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam in Parliament on Tuesday (04), the Minister stated that special attention has been given to the matter and that immediate action will be taken to advance the investigations.
“I acknowledge the importance of the concerns raised by MP Gajendrakumar regarding this issue. Steps will be taken accordingly, and the progress of the related procedures will be communicated in the coming days,” the Minister added.
Meanwhile, MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam expressed concern that the excavation work at the Chemmani mass grave site may be halted due to the lack of adequate protection measures in the area. He further pointed out that there is insufficient funding for carrying out the excavations and for the deployment of forensic medical officers required for the investigation.
