Shiv Sena Warns Against Distribution of Bibles to Hindu Students in Northern Schools

Representatives of the Sri Lankan organization Siva Senai have warned that they will burn copies of the Bible if attempts are made to distribute them to Hindu students in schools in the Northern Province.
Speaking at a media briefing held yesterday (Monday) in Jaffna, Siva Senai members Srindran and Madhavan called on the Governor of the Northern Province to intervene in the matter.
They alleged that the actions of the Northern Province’s Additional Provincial Director of Education, Bradley, could create tensions between religious communities. According to them, permission had been granted to distribute the Christian religious text, the Bible, in Northern Province schools, which they claim could pressure Hindu students into receiving the book.
The representatives further stated that when they inquired about the Christian organization that had reportedly requested permission to distribute the books, they were unable to find evidence that such an organization is officially registered in Sri Lanka. They also claimed to have received information that around 150,000 copies of the Bible are planned to be distributed in the Northern Province.
They questioned how the recommendation for the distribution had been made by the Additional Provincial Director of Education without the approval of the Governor of the Northern Province, suggesting there may be undisclosed motives behind the move.
The group said they had already informed the Governor in writing and had also lodged complaints with the police regarding the issue.
They warned that if authorities fail to take action and attempts continue to distribute Bibles to Hindu students, they would collect the books and burn them in front of schools.
