A Sri Lankan domestic driver has been arrested in Kuwait on suspicion of trafficking crystal methamphetamine while using his duties transporting his employer’s family as a cover for his alleged drug activities, according to Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior.

The suspect was arrested in the Ardiya area following an investigation by the General Department of Criminal Investigation under the ministry’s Criminal Security Sector.

Drugs Discovered During Investigation

According to the ministry, detectives from the Sabah Al-Nasser office in Farwaniya Governorate began monitoring the suspect following intelligence reports of illegal drug trafficking in the area.

Investigators reportedly reviewed surveillance camera footage and discovered that the driver was allegedly distributing narcotics while transporting members of his employer’s family in their vehicle.

He was subsequently intercepted and arrested with bags of crystal methamphetamine in his possession.

Following the arrest, the suspect reportedly led officers to his living quarters inside his employer’s residence, where a search was conducted in coordination with the homeowner.

Drugs, Cash and Financial Records Seized

During the search, authorities seized approximately 469.1 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 0.7 grams of marijuana, a precision digital scale and KD 285.950 in cash.

Investigators also uncovered financial records indicating that a total of KD 6,573 had been remitted to individuals in Sri Lanka.

According to the ministry, the suspect admitted to possessing the narcotics for distribution and allegedly disclosed that he had been coordinating the trafficking operation with an accomplice based outside Kuwait.

Separate Arrest in Ahmadi

In a separate operation, authorities in Ahmadi Governorate arrested a Bangladeshi fuel station attendant suspected of conducting several unauthorised commercial activities.

The alleged activities included black-market currency exchange, cigarette sales, unauthorised printing of travel documents and the stockpiling of state-subsidised food items.

Officers confiscated several foreign currencies, including Saudi riyals, Qatari riyals and Bahraini dinars, along with Kuwaiti dinars.

Both suspects and the seized items have been referred to the relevant legal authorities for further proceedings.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has urged employers and households to remain vigilant to prevent vehicles and residential premises from being used for illegal activities.

The allegations against the suspects remain subject to legal proceedings.
