17,000 Used Sri Lanka-India Ferry Service So Far
Over 17,000 passengers have travelled between Sri Lanka and India through the passenger ferry service since its launch, according to Deputy Minister of Transport Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku.
Speaking in Parliament yesterday (22), the Deputy Minister said the ferry service began on October 14, 2023, and currently two vessels are in operation. However, there are ongoing issues regarding port infrastructure, and India has expressed its willingness to assist in resolving them.
Since the launch, 153 ferry trips have been conducted, transporting approximately 17,000 passengers. The service operates daily except on Tuesdays and is suspended during periods of rough sea conditions.
