UK MP Urges International Action Over Chemmani Mass Grave Investigation
British Member of Parliament Uma Kumaran has called for urgent international cooperation to investigate the Chemmani mass graves in Sri Lanka, emphasizing the need for justice, truth, and accountability for the families affected.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Uma described the scale of the graves as “devastating” and highlighted the profound grief experienced by families still seeking answers. She stressed that any investigation must be conducted in full compliance with international human rights law and standards.
Uma revealed she had recently written to the UK Foreign Secretary to raise the matter, and confirmed that she had asked in Parliament last month whether the UK would consider providing technical assistance to support the investigation.
“The Foreign Secretary confirmed that it is something he is looking at, action that I welcome,” Uma said. “The UK must play our part in full alongside international allies.”
