Six Sri Lankans suspected to have been abandoned by human traffickers were rescued by the Navy in the seas around Manalthittu, Talaimannar.
The North Central Naval Command conducted a special search operation during which six individuals in poor health were found on the seventh sandbank of Talaimannar.
Investigations revealed that human traffickers, who had attempted to illegally bring them into Sri Lanka by sea, had abandoned them at the location.
The rescued individuals, aged between 8 and 56, were identified as residents of Vavuniya, Mannar, and Kokkaddicholai.
They have since been handed over to the Talaimannar Police for further investigations, the Navy’s media unit confirmed.
