
A shocking incident in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district has created widespread tension after a 24-year-old man was brutally hacked to death by three minors over a love affair.
The victim, Manikandan (24), an electrician from the Alandhalai Tsunami Housing area near Tiruchendur, had been in a relationship with a 17-year-old girl from a nearby village. The two had eloped four months ago, but police later traced the girl and returned her to her parents.
On Sunday morning, while Manikandan was traveling by motorcycle to Tiruchendur for work, he was intercepted by the girl’s 16-year-old brother and two of his friends, also aged 16. Armed with sickles, the boys chased him down as he tried to hide inside a timber shop. They then attacked him repeatedly, inflicting fatal injuries to his head and hands. Manikandan died on the spot in a pool of blood.
The three assailants fled the scene, while police rushed to recover the body and sent it to Thoothukudi Government Hospital for postmortem examination. Authorities are analyzing CCTV footage and have launched a manhunt to arrest the minors involved.
The murder, stemming from a love affair, has sparked shock and unrest in the area.
