Jaffna International Airport (JIA) marked 2025 as its best-performing year since its inception in 2019, recording 53,443 international passenger movements and 1,138 international aircraft movements, according to official figures.
The year was highlighted by several historic milestones. The airport welcomed three international charter flights from Malaysia and from Hyderabad and Chennai in India, further strengthening its regional connectivity. JIA also operated its first-ever international MEDEVAC charter flight from Hyderabad, India, marking a significant step in emergency aviation services.
In a major development for future expansion, the airport officially commenced its Terminal Expansion Project with a foundation-laying ceremony, aimed at enhancing passenger capacity and improving facilities.
Jaffna International Airport also played a vital humanitarian role during the year by facilitating relief flights carrying essential supplies for communities affected by Cyclone Ditwah. These humanitarian operations were conducted in collaboration with international and local partners, including the United States Air Force.
With steady growth in operations, Jaffna International Airport continues to strengthen regional air connectivity, support economic development, and promote tourism in Northern Sri Lanka. Airport authorities expressed their appreciation to airline partners, stakeholders, travelers, and the dedicated JIA staff for contributing to these achievements.
