Burned Body of Young Woman Found Near Sangkupitty Bridge

Shocking details have emerged regarding the discovery of a young woman’s body near the Sangkupitty Bridge in Jaffna.
According to reports, the woman’s face had been burned, and her body was found floating near the bridge yesterday (12). The deceased is believed to be between 18 and 22 years old, but her identity has not yet been established.
Police suspect that the woman may have been brutally sexually assaulted and murdered before her body was dumped, raising widespread outrage and fear in the area.
Kilinochchi Acting Magistrate S. Siva Balasubramaniam visited the scene and ordered the recovery of the body. It has since been sent to the Kilinochchi District General Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The Poonakari Police have launched a full investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, social media users have drawn comparisons between this case and the 2015 Pungudutivu tragedy, where a schoolgirl named Nithya was gang-raped and murdered — a case that shocked the entire nation and drew international condemnation.
