Foreign Ministry Closely Follows Anojan Sivarasa Case in Saudi Arabia

Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism says it is closely monitoring the case of Anojаn Sivarasa, a Sri Lankan national currently facing judicial proceedings in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Ministry said the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh, in coordination with the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Colombo, is continuing to monitor developments concerning the case.

According to the Ministry, it remains engaged with the relevant Saudi authorities through diplomatic channels and is taking appropriate measures to safeguard Sivarasa’s interests.

The Ministry further stated that it is providing, and will continue to provide, all possible assistance to the Sri Lankan national during the ongoing judicial proceedings.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism issued the statement from Colombo.

Although an appeal was reportedly filed on Anojan’s behalf, his family members have stated that Anojan told them that he had been sentenced to death during the appeal proceedings. This claim has been widely shared on social media since this morning, amid which the Foreign Ministry has issued its statement.

It is expected that more clarity on whether Anojan was actually sentenced to death at the appeal stage will be available next week.
