ITAK Expels DTNA Presidential Common Candidate Ariyanethiran
The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) has expelled its former Member of Parliament, P. Ariyanethiran, from the party, according to MP Gnanamuthu Sreenesan.
Speaking on the matter, MP Sreenesan said an important development has come to light regarding Ariyanethiran’s status in the party. He stated that Ariyanethiran has only now received an official letter informing him of his removal from ITAK.
The letter was sent through Acting General Secretary M.A. Sumanthiran. MP Sreenesan emphasized that no such letter had been sent to Ariyanethiran prior to this. He further noted that the decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s political committee, and that he himself had seen the letter. Accordingly, it has now been officially confirmed that Ariyanethiran has been expelled from the party.
It is noteworthy that during the last presidential election, Ariyanethiran contested as an independent common candidate representing the Democratic Tamil National Alliance (DTNA), contrary to ITAK’s decision to support Sajith Premadasa. Ariyanethiran secured 226,343 votes at the election.
