Northern Districts Launch Anti-Drug Operations Under Nationwide Campaign
As part of the national initiative “Act Together Across the Nation”, aimed at completely eliminating illegal drugs, District Action Committees were established today in Kilinochchi and Jaffna under the participation of Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala and Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ramalingam Chandrasegar.
Consultation meetings in both districts focused on coordinating the implementation of the national action plan at the district level. The meetings were attended by the Minister of Public Security, Comrade Ananda Vijayabala, along with provincial governors, senior police and military officials, government department heads, community organizations, religious leaders, and local representatives. Discussions centered on drug eradication, law enforcement, community cooperation, and enhancing public safety.
Operating under national guidance, the District Action Committees will coordinate integrated efforts at district and local levels, strengthen collaboration among government institutions, and work toward creating drug-free and safe communities.
In parallel, anti-drug awareness sticker campaigns featuring the complaint hotline number 1818 were officially launched today on tricycles across both Kilinochchi and Jaffna District Secretariat premises. The campaign, under the theme “Aganru Sel”, sends a clear message against drug abuse, targeting both users and dealers. The events were inaugurated jointly by Minister Ananda Vijayabala along with local officials.
The establishment of these committees and the awareness initiatives mark significant steps toward strengthening security, law enforcement, and community safety in the Northern Province.
