Tamil Chef Wins Silver at Western European Carving Championship in Greece
A Sri Lankan born Tamil chef has achieved a remarkable international milestone at a prestigious culinary competition held in Greece, bringing pride to both his homeland and his adopted country.
Chef Thanuraj (Thanu) Raviraj, originally from Sri Lanka and currently representing Italy, secured victory at the Western European Fruits and Vegetable Carving Championship. Competing against participants from 15 countries, Chef Thanu stood out for his exceptional artistry and technical excellence in fruit and vegetable carving.
In recognition of his achievement, he was awarded a Silver Medal along with the prestigious “Greece Culinary Professional” honor. Additionally, he received a special recognition for outstanding personality from ICU Honorary Member Danijela Pantic Vlahovic of Serbia.
The competition was judged by an esteemed international panel of culinary leaders, including Andy Cuthbert, President of the World Association of Chefs Societies (Worldchefs); Dimitris Kyriakopoulos, President of Culinary Professionals; George Damianou, Continental Director of Southern Europe; Roberto Beltramini, Chief of Judges; and Christos Gkotsis, Organizing Chairman of SECC 2026.
Notably, Chef Thanu’s recognition came based on the evaluation of this distinguished panel, further underscoring the significance of his accomplishment on the global culinary stage.
