Trincomalee Port and Energy Projects Reviewed by Minister

Minister of Ports, Civil Aviation and Energy Anura Karunathilaka recently conducted a special inspection visit to review the progress of several strategic infrastructure projects in Trincomalee, including the Trincomalee Port, the Oil Tank Farm, a new fuel pipeline system, and the China Bay Airport development project.
The visit was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment and Trincomalee District MP Arun Hemachandra.
During the inspection, the minister reviewed plans to modernize the Trincomalee Oil Tank Farm, construct a new pipeline to transport imported fuel directly from the port to the storage tanks, and efficiently rehabilitate and reuse the port’s existing infrastructure. The delegation also assessed ongoing efforts to develop China Bay Airport into a tourism-focused aviation hub.
A subsequent meeting was held at the Trincomalee District Secretariat with officials from relevant government institutions and other stakeholders. During the discussions, participants agreed to expedite coordination efforts and streamline approval processes to accelerate the implementation of the projects.
According to the government, the proposed developments are expected to strengthen Sri Lanka’s energy security, enhance the country’s fuel storage and distribution capacity, attract new investments, generate employment opportunities, and position Trincomalee as a regional hub for energy and transportation.
