Were Hehalpathare Padme-Linked Substances Brought Into the Country Through Containers Released by Customs Last January?

A chemical linked to Hehalpathare Padme has raised suspicions over whether it was smuggled into the country through containers released earlier this year.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) sealed off the meth crystal (ice drug) factory operated by Hehalpathare Padme in Nuwara Eliya on the 4th. Following this, authorities uncovered and seized chemical substances buried in Middeniya. Investigations revealed that the chemicals had been brought into the country on January through two containers.

Amid this, journalist Tarindu Uduwaragedara questioned whether these substances had been smuggled into the country through one of the 323 containers released by the Customs Department on January 29.”

He further noted that no one knows for certain what was actually imported in those containers, as Customs had only released information provided by the importing companies themselves.
