The Cyber Crime Division was launched yesterday at the Jaffna Police Station, with the aim of investigating and taking immediate action on all cybercrimes occurring in the Northern region. Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasuriya stated this during his address at the event.

He further mentioned that cybercrimes have been increasing in the North in recent times, and it is essential to prevent such crimes from the start. He highlighted that issues such as online abuse against women, sexual comments, internet fraud, and obscene exchanges have previously required individuals to travel to Colombo for justice, causing delays and public inconvenience. Now, with the new Cyber Crime Division in the North, people will be able to easily seek justice for cybercrimes, and pending cases will be expedited for investigation.

  1. Thanks you for sharing this news. I want to ask, if someone suspects that a phone number may be linked to hacking or cyber fraud, how can we report it to the new Cyber Crime Division in Jaffna? Is there a direct contact number or email for assistance?
