A local Tamil politician is suspected to be linked to the cache of grenades recently seized in Chettikulam, Vavuniya, according to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Rohan Olugala.
Speaking in an interview with Samudditha Samarawikrama on YouTube, ASP Olugala said that the discovery was connected to a prior arrest in Colombo. Recently, a man was arrested in Kiribathgoda with a firearm, and based on the information he provided, another suspect was apprehended in Chettikulam with 86 grenades, which were intended to be brought to Colombo.
ASP Olugala confirmed that evidence indicates the involvement of a local Tamil politician in the incident. He clarified that the suspect is not a Member of Parliament and that his name cannot be disclosed at this stage, as the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) is still conducting investigations.
He further emphasized that the investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the politician’s connection to the seized explosives.
