An Indiana-based bankruptcy lawyer named Mark Stephen Zuckerberg has filed a lawsuit against Facebook, claiming the platform repeatedly removed his personal and business pages for “impersonating a celebrity.” The attorney, who has carried the name long before Meta’s CEO became a household figure, says he has spent over $11,000 on Facebook ads to promote his law practice, only to have his accounts unfairly blocked.
Mr. Zuckerberg told local media that his life has been disrupted for years by sharing the name with the billionaire tech founder. He reported receiving death threats, daily floods of friend requests, and constant tech support calls meant for Meta’s chief. In some cases, he has even had to use a fake name when booking restaurants to avoid being dismissed as a prank.
The lawyer, who has been practicing for nearly four decades, argues that Facebook’s actions have cost him business and violated “fair dealing” laws. He said account restorations often take months, leading to financial losses and frustration. “It’s not funny when they take my money,” he said, adding that he would prefer not to fight but feels he has no choice.
Meta acknowledged the case, saying, “We know there’s more than one Mark Zuckerberg in the world, and we are getting to the bottom of this.” The lawyer is seeking damages and legal fees but joked that a week on the Meta founder’s superyacht as an apology might be enough to settle things.
