Former Army Commander Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka has said that former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda and others involved in the abduction and killing of 11 youths, including students, should be punished. He made these remarks while speaking to the media.
Fonseka further stated that international sanctions have been imposed on military leaders such as Wasantha Karannagoda and Shavendra Silva. “I noticed that Mahinda Rajapaksa’s spokesperson claimed that no sanctions were imposed on me, but they were on others. They should understand that I was, in fact, the first Sri Lankan to be sanctioned by the United States. Due to these sanctions, I cannot travel to the U.S., whereas the Rajapaksas continue to visit freely without any restrictions,” he said.
Fonseka added that he was never involved in disgraceful acts like those committed by Karannagoda. “Everyone knows that Karannagoda was responsible for the abduction, ransom demands, and murder of 11 young men, including students,” he emphasized.
