Two individuals, including the son of a Jaffna Municipal Council member, have been arrested by the Jaffna District Crime Prevention Division for possession of 20 grams of the illicit drug known as ‘Ice’ (methamphetamine).
According to police sources, the arrests were made following a raid conducted by officers from the Crime Prevention Division under the Jaffna Senior Superintendent of Police, acting on a tip-off received by the police intelligence unit.
Sword Seized and Bribery Attempt
The suspects, aged 25 and 23, were taken into custody during the operation. Police revealed that one of them is linked to local violent gangs, and a dangerous sword was recovered from his possession.
Investigations further uncovered that the arrested suspects had allegedly attempted to bribe the officers in a bid to escape legal action.
The Jaffna District Crime Prevention Division is conducting further investigations into the incident.
This latest arrest has caused a stir in the region, as it comes just days after six other individuals were taken into custody in Jaffna over similar ‘Ice’ drug-related offenses.
