Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink, is preparing for its official India launch, marking a major step toward transforming high-speed internet access in the country’s remote and underserved regions.
The company is setting up nine gateway earth stations across key cities — including Mumbai, Noida, Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Lucknow — to establish seamless satellite connectivity nationwide. These stations will form the backbone of Starlink’s upcoming satellite internet services in India.
Starlink has already received temporary approval to use limited radio spectrum for system testing and security compliance. Additionally, it has been authorized to import 100 satellite terminals for testing purposes, although commercial use is yet to be approved.
With most regulatory processes nearing completion, the company now awaits SATCOM clearance and spectrum allocation, both expected to be finalized by the end of this year. Once approved, Starlink is set to begin commercial operations, ushering in a new era of reliable, high-speed internet connectivity across India.
