NPP Jaffna MP at Risk of Losing Parliamentary Seat

Social media has recently been abuzz with controversy surrounding the pension recommendation for Rajeevan Jayachandramoorthy, a former principal of Kokkuvil East Namagal Vidyalayam and current NPP MP for Jaffna.

Allegations suggest that the recommendation was made through improper means, potentially putting his parliamentary position at risk.

Jayachandramoorthy contested the November 14, 2024, parliamentary elections without formally resigning from his principal post or obtaining the necessary retirement approval as mandated by administrative procedures. According to regulations, principals must either resign before contesting or seek retirement permission at least 10 days before filing nominations if they have over 10 years of service.

The Jaffna Zonal Education Office reportedly forwarded Jayachandramoorthy’s pension application to the Provincial Education Department three months after the election, with conflicting dates on the documents—stating both October 3, 2024, and November 14, 2024, as retirement dates. The matter has raised questions about the legitimacy of his candidacy and his continued role as an MP.
