Northern Governor, Deputy Tourism Minister Discuss Integrated Tourism Development
A special meeting on the integrated development of tourism in the Northern Province was held on Tuesday (August 4) at the Governor’s Secretariat between Northern Province Governor N. Vethanayagan and Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof. Ruwan Gunasekara.
During the discussion, Governor Vethanayagan highlighted the proposed tourism development project at Gautharimunai in Kilinochchi District and requested the Tourism Ministry’s support to improve the area’s basic infrastructure.
The Governor also pointed to delays faced by investors seeking to develop tourism projects in the Northern Province due to the lengthy approval process involving the Forest Department, Department of Wildlife Conservation, and the Coast Conservation Department.
Responding to the concerns, Deputy Minister Gunasekara assured that the issues raised would receive attention and held detailed discussions on ways to promote tourism in the Northern Province and accelerate the implementation of integrated district-level tourism development plans.
The meeting was also attended by Member of Parliament J. Rajeevan, the Governor’s Secretary, the Chairman of the Northern Province Tourism Development Bureau, the Governor’s Private Secretary, and the Liaison Officer to the Jaffna District Coordinating Committee Chairman, among other officials.
