Archchuna MP Urges TamilNadu CM Vijay Not to Declare May 18 as Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day

Controversial Jaffna District Parliamentarian Archchuna Ramanathan has urged Tamil Nadu CM C. Joseph Vijay not to declare May 18 as “Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day” in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking during a YouTube interview in Chennai, Archchuna made the remarks in response to a recent letter sent by Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam MP to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, requesting the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to pass a resolution declaring May 18 as Tamil Genocide Day.

Archchuna MP, who is currently visiting Chennai, has reportedly been meeting various groups and giving interviews to several popular Tamil YouTube channels.

He also urged that CM Vijay should not make even a single emotionally charged statement regarding Eelam Tamil politics without proper understanding and reflection. He further claimed that Tamil politicians in Sri Lanka are trying to drag Vijay into political controversy and put him in a difficult situation.

Meanwhile, he accused Sri Lankan President of visiting Katchatheevu the very next day after Vijay spoke about the island, while failing to visit Neduntheevu, where around 3,000 people living near Katchatheevu are struggling under difficult conditions.

During the interview, he further stated that the current Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay had never used Sri Lankan Tamils for political propaganda. Archchuna MP also said that if he is elected as the future Chief Minister of Sri Lanka’s Northern Provincial Council, he would work closely with Vijay.

Commenting on the long-standing fisheries dispute between Sri Lanka and India, Archchuna MP stated that he would urge CM Vijay to advocate for Tamil Nadu fishermen to fish within Indian waters, while Northern Sri Lankan fishermen should fish within Sri Lankan waters..

Earlier, Archchuna MP met Tamil Nadu’s Minister for School Education, Tamil Development and Information, and close ally of CM Vijay, Rajmohan Arumugam, who had previously worked as a radio jockey at Shakthi FM in Sri Lanka.
