Chemmani Mass Grave Excavation: Two Skeletal Remains Recovered from Burial Site in Jaffna

Excavation activities continued for the ninth day on Wednesday (06) as part of the third phase of investigations at the Chemmani mass grave site in Jaffna.

During the latest excavation operations, authorities recovered three skeletal remains from a previously identified cluster of human bones.

In addition, another skeletal remain was identified at the site. However, officials stated that a significant portion of the remains extends beneath the structure of the cemetery cremation area, and further cleaning and excavation work will be carried out in the coming days to fully recover the remains.

According to the latest findings, a total of 256 human skeletal remains have so far been identified at the Chemmani mass grave site, of which 252 sets of remains have been completely excavated.
