Global Tamil Research Conference 2026 to be held in Toronto

The Global Tamil Research Conference, under the theme “Classical Tamil and Tamils in the Age of Artificial Intelligence,” is scheduled to take place in Toronto, Canada, from October 10 to 18, 2026, organizers announced.

The announcement was made during a media briefing held yesterday (Saturday) at the Jaffna Media Centre. The event was attended by Member of Parliament Shanmugam Kugathasan, along with academics including Dr. A. Shanmugadas, Dr. K. Visagarupan, Dr. Paul Rogan, and Mrs. Vijitha Divakaran.

Addressing the media, the speakers noted that the conference aims to bring together scholars and educators from around the world. It will serve as a platform to explore the intersections of Classical Tamil with fields such as artificial intelligence, philosophy, culture, diaspora studies, globalization, and economic development.

They emphasized that one of the key objectives of the conference is to promote interdisciplinary dialogue that highlights the historical depth of Tamil intellectual traditions and their relevance in the contemporary world.

Research papers are invited on a range of topics, including Tamil and artificial intelligence, philosophy and culture, economic thought and society, Tamil history, and economic development in the Northern and Eastern regions.

Submissions may be made in either Tamil or English. Abstracts of 250–300 words must be submitted by June 25, with selected applicants to be notified by June 30. Full papers, not exceeding 3,000 words, must be submitted by August 31.

Organizers also stated that selected participants from Sri Lanka and India will be provided with airfare and accommodation to attend the conference in Canada.
