Suwa Seriya Ambulance Staff Attacked in Selvapuram; Driver Hospitalized

Two staff members attached to Sri Lanka’s 1990 Suwa Seriya ambulance service were reportedly assaulted in the Selvapuram area during the early hours of May 1.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 1:00 a.m. when the ambulance team responded to an emergency call from Mankulam and arrived at the patient’s residence to transport an individual. At that time, individuals present at the location, including members of the patient’s household and others, allegedly carried out an attacked on the two ambulance personnel.
As a result of the assault, the ambulance driver sustained injuries and was admitted to hospital for treatment.
Police in Mankulam have launched an investigation into the incident.
The 1990 Suwa Seriya service provides free emergency ambulance services across the country. Authorities note that despite operating around the clock with dedication, such incidents pose serious threats to frontline emergency workers.
