Mannar Doctor’s Letter Referring to Former Fighter as ‘Terrorist’ Sparks Controversy

A letter issued by Mannar District Director of Health Services, Dr. Vinothan, has stirred significant controversy.

In the letter, sent as part of disciplinary action against a female Family Health Officer in the district, the doctor had referred to her husband, a former member of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) — as a “terrorist.”

The matter has drawn strong criticism from Selvarasa Kajendran, Secretary of the Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF). Selvarasa Kajendran demanded that Dr. Vinothan apologize to the Tamil people for hurting their feelings by referring to the Liberation Tigers, who fought for the rights of the Tamil people, as terrorists.
