Third Phase of Excavation at Chemmani Mass Grave Resumes
The third phase of excavation at the Chemmani Mass Grave commenced today(27), marking the continuation of a significant forensic investigation.
The excavation work, which had been temporarily halted in September last year, has now officially resumed. Today’s operations are being carried out under the supervision of Jaffna Magistrate S. Leninkumar.
At the conclusion of the second phase of excavations conducted last year, a total of 240 human skeletal remains were identified. Among them, 239 skeletons were fully exhumed.
Authorities are continuing the process as part of ongoing efforts to uncover and document findings related to the site.
