Sri Lankan MP Remanded Until April 29 Over Alleged Threat Incident
A Sri Lankan Member of Parliament, Ramanathan Archchuna, has been remanded until April 29, following his arrest by the Sri Lanka Police.
The MP was taken into custody by the Ilavalai Police and later produced before the Mallakam Magistrate’s Court, which ordered his remand.
According to police, the arrest is linked to an incident involving a land dispute, during which the MP allegedly threatened a woman at gunpoint. It is reported that he made death threats, including warning that he would shoot her in the head.
The incident, which allegedly took place on April 25, gained widespread attention after a video related to the घटना circulated on social media.
The MP had reportedly visited the Ilavalai Police Station earlier today (April 27) to provide a statement regarding the incident. Following the recording of his statement, he was arrested by police officers.
Authorities also confirmed that the firearm allegedly used in the incident has been seized by the police.
Further legal proceedings are expected as investigations continue.
