Govt Assures Land Release in North Without Political Motives

The government has assured that lands in the Northern Province, which were acquired for security reasons in the Northern and Eastern regions, will be released but not for political gain, Minister Bimal Rathnayake stated.

He made this assurance day before yesterday (18) during the Jaffna District Development Committee meeting.

During the meeting, Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi Member of Parliament S. Sritharan raised several issues, including the release of lands in the North. This led to a heated exchange between MP S. Sritharan and Minister Bimal Rathnayake.

Minister Rathnayake reiterated that while the government is committed to releasing lands, the process will not be influenced by political considerations. He made these remarks under the agenda of the Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation during the Jaffna District Development Committee discussions.
