78 Fishermen Arrested for Illegal Fishing

The Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 78 fishermen over the past two weeks on charges of engaging in illegal fishing within local waters.
According to the Navy, the arrests were made during special search operations carried out in the seas off Trincomalee and the coastal stretch from Karaithivu to Nintavur.
During the operations, naval officers seized 35 dinghy boats, a multi-day fishing vessel, banned fishing nets, explosives, and other illegal fishing equipment.
The suspects have been handed over to the Fisheries Department for further legal action.
