Karur TVK Rally Stampede: Death Toll Rises to 39 – Probe Panel Appointed

Karur, Tamil Nadu – The death toll from the tragic stampede at Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay’s campaign rally in Karur has risen to 39, including six children. Dozens of others remain hospitalized with injuries.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has ordered a judicial inquiry led by retired High Court judge Aruna Jegadeesan to investigate the causes and circumstances of the incident.

The CM also announced ₹10 lakh compensation for the families of the deceased and ₹1 lakh for those injured. Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the state government to provide a detailed explanation of the tragedy.

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, and several other leaders have expressed their condolences.
